Suns Name 33-Year-Old Celtics Exec Ryan McDonough To GM Post
The Suns today named 33-year-old Celtics Assistant GM Ryan McDonough GM. He will be formally introduced at a press conference on Thursday. McDonough’s principal responsibility while with the Celtics was with draft evaluation of college and int’l players. McDonough's late father, Will, was a longtime Boston Globe columnist, and his brothers are ESPN commentator Sean McDonough and Jaguars Dir of Player Personnel Terry McDonough (Suns).
YAHOO SPORTS’ Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted, “With hiring of Boston's McDonough, Suns direction is clear: No more stopgap short-term free agents, rebuild through multiple picks in draft. … First job for McDonough in Phoenix will be to hire a coach: Expect him to find a bright, young assistant to grow with a full-blown rebuild (TWITTER.com, 5/7).
