Army's Jerseys For Navy Game Commemorate Battle Of The Bulge
Army will wear jerseys in its annual game against Navy Saturday that “pays tribute to 1944,” the year of Army’s first of three consecutive national championships as well as the Allies' victory at the Battle of the Bulge. The Nike uniforms will include a “historical, re-interpreted West Point map” of the battle on the jersey numbers, gloves and helmet stripe. The helmet will also feature a black spade in a “nod to the 101st Airborne Division.” Navy will feature an anchor on their helmet for the second straight year, as well as a “gold stripe … and signal flags on the back” (MILITARYTIMES.com, 12/6).
CBS Sports Network’s Allie LaForce said the uniforms are "tough and they’re fun and they’re creative, but they’re still respectful to tradition. ... I just like when there’s understated details, and there’s little pieces of history throughout the entire jersey and helmet.” CBS Sports Network’s Doug Gottlieb said Nike "did a very good job, and you have to with a game of that magnitude” (“Lead Off,” CBS Sports Network, 12/6).
