Rutgers Univ. Suing Big East To Avoid Paying $10M Exit Fee
Rutgers Univ. is suing the Big East in an attempt to avoid paying a $10M exit fee for leaving the conference to join the Big Ten. In a lawsuit filed in Middlesex County, N.J., the school said that the Big East "has not applied the fee to all schools that have exited the conference." Rutgers also claims in the suit that "the Big East withdrawal rules have not been consistently applied to all schools leaving the conference" (NJ.com, 12/5). When asked for comment at the '12 IMG Intercollegiate Athletics Forum, Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti said, "We do not comment on pending litigation" (THE DAILY).
