Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker today announced plans to "make another bid to hold the Winter Olympics." A committee urged the pair to "make what could be a longshot bid" for the '26 Games. The bid would capitalize on "the infrastructure left in place" from the '02 Games (AP, 12/3).

Eurosport Asia-Pacific has acquired exclusive broadcast rights to up to 60 KHL games per season, a first for the league that "has never before achieved a comparable amount of TV coverage in Asia." The deal was negotiated by Infront Sports & Media and takes effect Dec. 7 with a CSKA Moscow-Dynamo Moscow game (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 12/3).

A Sacramento-based group of investors led by entrepreneur Warren Smith has acquired an USL expansion team "in hopes of eventually converting it" to an MLS team. Smith: "Major League Soccer is expanding" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/3).

Fenway Sports Group and the Red Sox reportedly are "in the planning stages of another 'Frozen Fenway' event, with the goal of playing more hockey games at Fenway Park next winter" (NHL.com, 12/3).

ESPN commentator Sean McDonough on Friday had surgery for superior canal dehiscence syndrome, a condition he was diagnosed with earlier this year. He is recovering and targeting a return later this month (ESPN).

The USA Today Sports Media Group today formally announced the rebranding of US Presswire to USA Today Sports Images (USA Today Sports Media Group).
