FIFA Group Seeking Ban On Investors Owning Player Transfer Rights
FIFA is considering a "request to stop investors from buying stakes in the transfer rights of players," a practice known as third-party ownership that several European clubs have been using "as banks shut off credit." FIFA's Football Committee, led by UEFA President Michel Platini, asked the governing body "to submit a proposal by the end of March." Platini feels that the practice "is draining clubs of their wealth." Any rule change would need to be approved by FIFA's Congress, which meets in May (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 11/16).
