Cowboys' Jerry Jones Implies He Would Never Give Up GM Title
Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones today implied that he "will never relinquish" his GM title. Jones during his twice-weekly radio show on Dallas-area KRLD-FM said, "There's no way that I would be involved here and not be the final decision-maker on something as important as players, and that is a key area. That's never been anybody's misunderstanding. It's been a debated thing, but it's just not going to happen" (ESPNDALLAS.com, 11/6).
Also today on KRLD-FM, Cowboys COO, Exec VP & Dir of Player Personnel Stephen Jones "shot down any notion that his team might be interested" in hiring Saints coach Sean Payton. Payton reportedly could be a free agent after his season-long suspension. But Jones said, "He's the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, although he's suspended, and that has nothing to do with us" (CBSSPORTS.com, 11/6).
