Islanders Owner Charles Wang Announces Move To Brooklyn
Islanders Owner Charles Wang today announced that the team had made "a 25-year commitment to play at the Barclays Center" beginning in '15. Wang, who does not have any intentions of the selling the team, called the deal "'iron clad' with no opt-out clause." Wang decided to make the move "because there was no longer enough time to build a new arena" before the Nassau Coliseum lease expired. Barclays Center seats 18,000 for basketball, but will have a capacity of about 15,000 when configured for hockey (NEWSDAY.com, 10/24). The Islanders team name and logo will not change. Wang: "We are the New York Islanders" (ESPNNY.com, 10/24).
