Texas Motor Speedway Will Again Host Izod IndyCar Series Race

Texas Motor Speedway today announced its '13 race schedule, which reveals that the track in June will host an IndyCar race for the 17th straight year. That "ends speculation about the future of the open-wheel series" at the facility. TMS also will host two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekends for the ninth consecutive season (AP, 8/21). IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard earlier this summer "hinted at a split" with the track. But the sides "settled their differences, which centered on race-sanction fees" (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/20).

TMS' schedule release also formally announces that Samsung will not renew as a title sponsor of the track's spring Sprint Cup date. Sporting News' Bob Pockrass on his Twitter feed noted the Samsung deal represented "the last grandfathered-in mobile sponsorship" from before the Nextel Cup era (TWITTER.com, 8/21).
