Vin Scully To Miss Dodgers Home Opener For First Time In 35 Years

Baseball HOF broadcaster Vin Scully will miss the Dodgers' home opener today against the Pirates due to a cold. This is the "first time in 35 years" Scully has missed the team's first home game of the season (AP, 4/10).

Ahead of today's game, two police agencies planned a "heavy but at times stealthy presence around Dodger Stadium." The LAPD will deploy a "contingent that includes plainclothes cops wearing Pirates jerseys," and around 60 officers "will patrol on bicycles." LAPD and the L.A. Department of General Services' Office of Public Safety "checked out parks near Dodger Stadium Monday night." This is the Dodgers' first home opener since the near-fatal beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow (PRESSTELEGRAM.com, 4/10).
