NHL Viewership Up For First Slate Of Stanley Cup Playoff Games

The NHL has seen viewership increases nationally and locally in early Stanley Cup Playoff action. Versus on Wednesday averaged 534,328 viewers for its tripleheader, the net's best opening night in six years of playoff coverage and a 12% increase from '10. The Penguins earned a 16.2 local rating on Root Sports for their Game One win over the Lightning; the Red Wings earned a 9.4 on FS Detroit for their win over the Coyotes; and the Blackhawks drew a 5.1 rating on Comcast SportsNet Chicago for their Game One loss to the Canucks.

NHL.com on the first day of the playoffs saw increases of 23% for unique visitors, 22% for page views and 163% for video starts. Page views were up 66% for the league's mobile site (NHL).
