NBA Kings Now Have Until May 2 To Make Relocation Request
The NBA has extended the relocation application deadline of the Kings to move to Anaheim to May 2 from April 17. NBA Commissioner David Stern said the Relocation Committee “thought it would be good to do more fact finding.” Stern: “It was jointly proposed to me by the Maloofs and [BOG] chairman Glen Taylor and [Relocation Committee Chair] Clay Bennett and my job was to get it extended. The committee wanted more time to understand certain finance issues and certain television issues. It just seemed to be a good idea to put it off for a few weeks.”
The extension comes after the NBA’s BOG ended its meeting this afternoon in N.Y. Stern also said that the league expects to lose about $300M this season after losing $340M in the '09-10 season. The league expects that 22 of its 30 teams will lose money this year. Stern did not say how many teams lost money during '09-10.
