In his current position, Ed Winkle oversees some of the largest global marketing partnerships across the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and USA Basketball. Leading a seasoned team of sports marketing professionals, he and his team act as the primary point of marketing ideation and activation for world class brands such as PepsiCo, Gatorade, MGM Resorts, Moet-Hennessy, ExxonMobil and Anheuser-Busch. In this role, Winkle and his group offer these brands an integrated approach across the League’s broadcast, digital media and experiential assets on a global basis.
Winkle started his NBA career in the NBA’s Asia headquarters in Hong Kong as the Senior Director of Business Development and Marketing Partnerships. In that position, he was charged with core strategy development, building brand and driving growth across the Asia Pacific region that included overseeing offices in Japan and Korea.
Prior to joining the NBA in May 2009, Winkle held several upper management positions across sales and marketing functions at FedEx Corporation. His almost 20-year career with FedEx was highly focused on growing the company’s global footprint with assignments in Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.
Born and raised in Chicago, he attended Illinois Wesleyan University where he graduated with a degree in Finance. He currently resides in Manhattan.
