Akshay joined StubHub in January 2018 as Head of Partnerships – NFL, NBA, and NHL. In that role he led StubHub’s industry-defining partnership with the NFL, in addition to managing StubHub’s partnerships with NBA and NHL teams. During his tenure in that position, he helped drive the launch of two team partnerships, with the Cleveland Cavaliers and with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Within a year, Akshay was promoted to be the GM of the NFL, NBA, and NHL genre, which comprises one of the three verticals that drive StubHub’s $5B Gross Transaction Value business. While in charge of a business exceeding $1B in GTV, Akshay and his cross-functional team have driven double digit year-over-year growth in each of the three sports comprising the vertical.
Prior to his time at StubHub, Akshay was the Vice President of Strategy for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), overseeing the business strategy group and involved in all revenue generating functions of the organization’s teams, including the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center, Crystal Palace of the English Premier League, eSports property Team Dignitas, and the Sixers Innovation Lab Crafted by Kimball.
Before joining HBSE, Akshay served as an Associate at Sycamore Partners, a consumer retail-focused private equity firm in New York City with more than $3.5B under management. While at Sycamore Partners, Khanna was involved in evaluating and executing leveraged buyouts and assisting portfolio companies with strategic initiatives and add-on acquisitions.
Prior to Sycamore Partners, Akshay was an Analyst at Audax Group, a middle-market private equity firm in Boston with more than $9B in assets across its equity, mezzanine debt, and senior debt businesses.
Akshay earned his A.B., graduating magna cum laude from Middlebury College in 2009. He graduated with an MBA from The Wharton School and an MA in International Studies from The Lauder Institute at The University of Pennsylvania in 2015, where he was a Leonard Lauder Scholar.
Akshay is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper and serves as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University's School of Professional Studies. He was also a member of Forbes' 30 Under 30 (Sports) Class of 2017 and Wharton's 40 Under 40 Class of 2017, and has been published in the Wharton Digital Press.
