John Shumate

Vice President, Marketing
Eastbay

John Shumate is currently the VP of Marketing & Brand Management for Eastbay the athletic footwear and apparel retailer a division of Footlocker Inc.  In this role, Shumate is responsible for overseeing all marketing efforts and leading all brand initiatives for the Eastbay brand.

 

Prior to Eastbay, Shumate brings a wealth of experience from PepsiCo’s North American Beverages division, as he set the strategic direction and innovation agenda for Aquafina and LIFEWATER and drove unprecedented growth for those brands.  

 

Shumate also managed the Gatorade brand, directing the G Series portfolio focusing on Gatorade's Innovation Platform. In this role, he devised marketing strategies, promotions, branded content and led Gatorade brand partnerships including all NFL Properties, comprised of 32 NFL Teams, NFL Players Inc., and NFL Athletes such as Cam Newton, Von Miller and JJ Watt, in addition to 28 Universities in the SEC and ACC as well as the College Football Bowl Series. He also has worked for professional sports franchises in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the NBA with the Orlando Magic and the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.

 

Shumate is know as a high-visibility brand builder for world-class corporations. He is an impact driver with glistening track record of leadership success. He has a proven ability to mentor and develop as well as builds consensus that consistently creates momentum to implement strategic initiatives. He has developed and managed partner alliances with the NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, and Live Nation properties as well as celebrities, athletes and entertainers.  His essential value is talent for defining vision, drive growth strategy, and infusing the team with game-changing ideas.

 

Shumate obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and later earned his MBA from Florida Atlantic University. Shumate lives in Wisconsin and is married to his lovely wife Shana and they are the proud parents of twin boys Jackson and Chase.
