Christopher H. Koch is the fourth generation CEO of the family-owned company New Era Cap. As the company’s leader since 1993, Chris’s determination and passion has transformed New Era into a category leader and an iconic international brand with more than 65 million caps sold in over 125 countries worldwide.
As President and CEO, Chris is responsible for setting long-term business strategies, driving overall company growth on a global level, expanding the brand beyond headwear though company acquisitions, and, most importantly, deepening the relationships the brand has with its key partners.
Chris has spent his entire career at New Era, and has been involved in nearly every aspect of the business. His passion for the product combined with his desire to exceed expectations is what has catapulted the brand to its position as the number one headwear brand in the world and one that spans the worlds of sport, fashion, music and entertainment.
Some of Chris’s proudest achievements include securing the first deal with Major League Baseball in the early 1990s making New Era the exclusive supplier of on-field caps for the league - a first for the industry. And because of Chris’s strong relationship with MLB over the years and the market power of the brand, New Era earned the right to have its logo visible on all MLB headwear beginning in 2017.
Chris’s commitment to sports doesn’t end with MLB. In 2016, New Era took over the stadium naming rights for the Buffalo Bills, dubbing it New Era Field and becoming the first licensed partner in any sport with its name on a stadium, arena or ballpark.
And, with the signing of the NBA deal in 2016, New Era is now the only brand in sports history to have exclusive on-field, sideline and on court headwear rights for the three major U.S. sports leagues at the same time.
Many of these deals extent into New Era global operations in regions including Canada, Japan, Hong Kong (APAC), Europe (EMEA), Brazil, Mexico and Latin America.
Today, the New Era portfolio includes 50+ professional team sponsorships and 30+ athlete endorsers, and the brand holds licensing partnerships with over 650 sports and entertainment properties, including MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA, Manchester United, NASCAR, and Disney, among others.
