CHUCK GREENBERG

Managing Partner, Frisco RoughRiders, Myrtle Beach Pelicans and State College Spikes

For more than two decades, Chuck Greenberg has built his reputation as an innovative sports franchise owner and operator at the major and minor league levels, corporate and sports attorney, dealmaker, advisor, and expert on the business and economics of professional sports.

In perhaps his most prominent work as a sports industry attorney, in 1998-99 Chuck played a key role in the deal to save and secure the future of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins by helping to form and then represent the new ownership group led by hockey legend Mario Lemieux and renowned businessman Ron Burkle. In 2007, he represented the Penguins in successful negotiations to build the current PPG Paints Arena.

Throughout 2009 and much of 2010, he led an ownership group through one of the most complex and controversial sales processes in sports history, culminating in Chuck and his partners outbidding Mark Cuban and Jim Crane in a dramatic public auction in bankruptcy court to acquire the Texas Rangers. His tenure as Managing Partner & CEO with the Rangers was highlighted by the club reaching its first World Series. He was also the architect of a lucrative and landmark deal with Fox Sports Southwest that changed the landscape of television rights deals throughout the sports industry.

Chuck's career as a franchise owner began in 2002, when he led a group that purchased Minor League Baseball’s Altoona (PA) Curve. Currently, he is the Managing Partner of three franchises -- the Frisco (TX) RoughRiders, Myrtle Beach (SC) Pelicans and State College (PA) Spikes. He also serves on the MiLB Board of Trustees.

His teams have won numerous industry awards and are well known for their creativity and innovation. Chuck’s most high-profile creation, Frisco’s 400-foot Choctaw Lazy River, opened in June 2016 to international acclaim and is the largest water feature in a sports venue in the world.

Chuck earned his B.A. from Tufts University in 1982 and his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1985.
