LEGAL MATTERS: The Raptors are “headed to court” over the costs and residual losses of a minor fire that disrupted a game more than two years ago. A lawsuit lodged on behalf of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment seeks $3M in damages for the incident, which “delayed a Raptors game” against the Pacers in March 2022 and “eventually forced the evacuation of fans from the Scotiabank Arena.” The suit involves third-party companies along with the company “contracted to provide the pyrotechnics for the Raptors game.” A small fire started in speakers that hang from the eastern side of the arena in the second quarter of the game (TORONTO STAR, 4/30).... Former Pistons exec ROB MURPHY and the team have “settled a contentious lawsuit” with DEJANAI RASKA -- who accused her boss of “sexually taunting her for months.” The settlement comes 18 months after Murphy was” placed on leave from the Pistons as the organization quietly investigated claims that he had engaged in workplace misconduct with a former female employee.” Six months after placing him on leave, the Pistons “formally announced Murphy's firing” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 4/30)....Former Haas F1 Team Principal GUENTHER STEINER has “launched court action” against the team over money he says that he “is owed, as well as it using his likeness for promotional material.” Steiner has claimed that his former team has not paid him for commissions that he was owed over several years. He also claims that the team, which he left at the end of last year after his contract was not renewed, continues to sell merchandise that features his name and image, as well as use him on its official website (MOTORSPORT, 5/1).
