NO LACKY: In DC, Lisa de Moraes reported NBC President Andrew Lack "would not promise" that '02 Olympics coverage would feature more competition and "fewer of those touchy feely packages that plagued NBC's coverage of the Sydney Games." Lack would "only say that [NBC Sports Chair Dick Ebersol] is a 'great producer' and if the 'balance' was off during the Sydney Games, he's confident Ebersol will get it right in Salt Lake." Meanwhile, Lack said that the NBC would be "very aggressive" in NBA TV rights negotiations, but he added if "the numbers are going to choke us, we are going to walk away" (WASHINGTON POST, 7/21).

NOTES: USA TODAY's Larry King reports Keith Olbermann is "negotiating with two radio networks about doing a regular talk show." King: "He would be a welcome addition to the ranks" (USA TODAY, 7/23)....In L.A., Larry Stewart writes tonight's "SportsCentury: Frank Gifford" on ESPN Classic "is one of the best shows in the 'SportsCentury' series, but it could have been even better. The problem is, you can't profile Frank Gifford in one show" (L.A. TIMES, 7/23)....In Toronto, David Naylor reported the NLL expects to have a nationally televised game of the week in Canada next season, as negotiations between the league, Molstar Entertainment and Sportsnet are "in the final stages." NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings said that completing TV deals is his "priority" and added he is "having discussions" in the U.S. with TNT, ESPN and CNN/SI, which has reportedly "shown the most interest" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 7/21).
