La Russa Has Dropped Lawsuit Against Twitter
The AP's Cheryl Wittenauer reported MLB Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has "quietly dropped his lawsuit against" Twitter. A one-paragraph statement filed June 26 in U.S. District Court in S.F. said that La Russa had "dropped all claims" and that Twitter "did not compensate him in exchange." La Russa: "I think it's been resolved" (AP, 7/7).

NEW JACKET: In Columbus, Tom Reed reports AHL Syracuse Crunch play-by-play announcer Bob McElligott will join the Blue Jackets broadcast team, "serving in the radio booth alongside veteran play-by-play announcer George Matthews." The pairing of two play-by-play announcers is "rare in the NHL and will lead some to assume McElligott is being groomed as Matthews' successor." Sources said that Matthews "received a one-year contract extension in the spring." McElligott replaces former radio analyst Bill Davidge, who will serve as FS Ohio Blue Jackets color analyst. McElligott also will serve as "host of the team's pregame and postgame shows and contribute regularly to the team's Web site" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 7/8).

MINIMAL BENEFITS: In San Diego, Jay Posner wrote, "Forgive me if I don't do cartwheels over the deal that will allow Padres games to be streamed live to Cox High Speed Internet subscribers." Posner: "For one thing, if I'm already paying for Channel 4 San Diego, why should I have to pay an additional $49.95 to see the same game on my computer, especially when -- and this seems the most unfair part -- I can't 'take' the games with me?" Posner noted subscribers to the service outside the Padres TV market by rule "can't watch the Padres on the computer," but that would be "exactly the time I'd want the service" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/3).
