Phillies' Game One Win Draws 13.8 Overnight

Fox predictably is seeing a huge ratings jump over ’08 for the Phillies’ 6-1 win over the Yankees in the opening game of the World Series -- the 13.8 overnight Nielsen rating is 34% higher than Philadelphia’s Game One win over the Rays last year. Among the highlights from last night’s game might be the umpires huddling up in the fifth inning and correctly calling an odd double play. After a postseason that has seen its share of missed calls, it is refreshing to see the men in blue on the field get one right. While that might slow the calls for an expanded use of instant replay, it is unlikely to stop them all together. But Bud Selig during a rare late-night TV appearance says replay just “breaks the pace of the game.”
