  • Torres builds on momentum with 2-book deal

    The Olympics haven’t started, but 41-year-old swimmer Dara Torres has already made a big splash, signing a multimillion-dollar two-book deal with Random House’s Broadway Books.

    The deal will see Torres, the oldest female swimmer in Olympic history, write a memoir for a spring 2009 release and a fitness guide for publication in early 2011. Industry sources pegged the combined advance and marketing commitment against both books at $3 million.    Read More  >

  • Nike Focuses on Teamwork in New USA Hoops Ad

     
    Looking to deepen its ties to USA Basketball’s “Redeem Team,” Nike this week will release its first Olympics ad to focus exclusively on the basketball team.

    The 30-second spot, titled “United We Rise,” mashes together images of Marvin Gaye singing the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game with images of the basketball team running through drills and practice in Las Vegas. It closes with the words “Just Do It” and the image of Nike’s swoosh.    Read More  >
