Drive-Thru Operations: NASCAR’s Dave Finley Profiled By WSJ

NASCAR Senior Manager of Series Operations DAVE FINLEY is profiled by the WALL STREET JOURNAL’s Amy Chozick, who notes Finley is “in charge of planning everything that happens at the track before the green flag drops and after the checkered flag waves.” Finley, who makes “just under six figures and typically works 14-hour days,” is a liaison to network TV, choreographs celebrations in Victory Lane and drives VIPs around the track. Finley: “I have the best job in NASCAR. I get to work with everyone: the CEO of Home Depot, the president. It’s an awesome gig.” Chozick notes Finley was a bartender in N.Y. when a customer helped him land a job at WFAN-AM. He worked in the Mets’ marketing and promotions department before becoming an account exec at NASCAR’s N.Y. office in ’99. In ’03, Finley was offered his current job at NASCAR’s Daytona Beach HQs. All major sporting events have logistics teams, and Turnkey Sports & Entertainment President LEN PERNA said that jobs like Finley’s “are among the most in demand in the industry.” NFL VP/Special Events FRANK SUPOVITZ runs a team of 26 people that “puts on the Super Bowl, the Pro Bowl, the draft and other special events” (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 11/15).
