Reducing Prices Of Some Games |
Banc of America Securities research analyst Gary Cooper said that Electronic Arts
(EA) has reduced prices on some videogames by 20% to “spur sales and thwart competition,”
according to REUTERS. Cooper said that titles like “NBA Live 06” and “NASCAR 06”
are among the games reduced from $49.99 to $39.99, and “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06”
is also on that list. Cooper “expects EA to make similar price cuts” on “Madden
NFL 06” after Thanksgiving, and added that it is “possible that EA would cut the
price” on “FIFA 06” by $10 in December. REUTERS notes videogame sales “have been
soft in recent months as consumers await new console technology.” EA VP/Corporate
Communications Jeff Brown said that there is “no change in EA’s pricing policy.”
Brown: “We make pricing decisions on a title-by-title, market-by-market basis”
(REUTERS,
11/15). EA also cut prices on some sports videogames around the same time
last year (THE DAILY).
