AEG Names CMO Hunter To Newly-Created Sports Presidency

AEG promoted CMO SHAWN HUNTER to the newly-created position of AEG Sports President. Hunter’s responsibilities will include strategic planning and overseeing business operations for all of AEG’s sports franchises, sports properties, events and tournaments. Additionally, Hunter, who joined AEG in ’03, will oversee marketing, advertising, PR, merchandising, creative services and client services for all AEG-owned or operated venues and entities (AEG). In L.A., Greg Johnson writes the move “reflects the growing sweep of AEG’s sports and entertainment businesses” and is “expected to free AEG President [& CEO] TIM LEIWEKE to focus on the company’s strategic planning, as well as oversee AEG’s growing stable of non-sports businesses.” Pollstar Editor GARY BONGIOVANNI said, “I’ve often wondered how Tim Leiweke could remain so active in all of their divisions. They have their hands in so many different things.” Hunter said that although he will oversee AEG’s sports teams, “he intended to leave day-to-day matters to team managers” (L.A. TIMES, 9/13).
