The CBC Airing Cherry’s “Coach’s
Corner” Without Seven-Second Delay
CHERRY BOMB: With the CBC deciding to no longer use a seven-second delay during Don Cherry’s “Coach’s Corner” segment on “Hockey Night In Canada,” in Toronto, William Houston writes the delay “wasn’t practical.” CBC Exec Producer Joel Darling: “We were able to do it, but we obviously didn’t have to use it. Now, it’s a different time.” Houston notes the delay was mandated by former CBC TV Exec VP Harold Redekopp, who has since left the network and been replaced by Richard Stursberg (GLOBE & MAIL, 7/27).

RACING: In Charlotte, Erik Spanberg reports News Corp.’s Speed Channel, after considering moving from Charlotte to another city or closer to NASCAR teams north of the city, “has instead settled on a two-year lease extension” for its current HQs through ’08. The network will increase its space to 23,000 square feet from the current 19,000 (CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/22 issue)....NASCAR Chair & CEO Brian France, “lamenting the lack of racing coverage in the press,” said at the CTAM Summit yesterday, that he is “mulling the idea of developing content that could be used by news organizations — sort of a ‘NASCAR AP’” (CABLEFAX DAILY, 7/27).
