Capital Improvement: DCSEC Hires Lew To Oversee Construction
The DC Sports & Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) has hired
former Washington Convention Center Managing Dir of Development ALLEN LEW
as President & CEO, completing a “yearlong search that began after the departure
of BOBBY GOLDWATER,” according to Eric Fisher of the WASHINGTON TIMES.
Lew will start November 1 and “serve as the city’s point man for the operation
of” RFK Stadium and proposed new stadiums for the Expos and MLS United. Lew:
“The opportunity to build these two stadiums was the big selling point for this
job. And I know this can and will get done. We did the $850[M] convention center
here and did it with no overruns, no major problems and no lawsuits.” DCSEC
Chair MARK TUOHEY “will remain in his role, which is a part-time volunteer
post, and begin deferring some of the sports commission work” to Lew. Lew’s
salary was not disclosed, but the position was advertised “earlier this year
at $180,000 a year.” Lew has also served as COO for the Javits Convention Center,
N.Y. Health & Hospitals Corp VP/Capital Programs and “has a background in commercial
real estate” (WASHINGTON
TIMES, 10/7).
