The judge in RealNetworks' federal lawsuit against MLB last
Friday denied RealNetworks' motion for a temporary restraining order that
would have forced MLB "to produce live audio broadcasts of spring-training games
in" RealMedia format (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 3/13).
N.Y. RADIO: In N.Y., Paul Schwartz reported NFL Giants
RB Tiki Barber "has decided not to re-up for" "Tiki Lounge," his weekly show
on N.Y.'s WEPN-AM. While new Giants coach Tom Coughlin has said that he "might
have strict guidelines as to what his players are permitted to do regarding
off-hours media commitments," Barber said Coughlin "said as long as you're not
distracting yourself late in the week leading up to game time then I don't care
what you do" (N.Y. POST, 3/14)....Also in N.Y., Michael Starr reported
WOR-AM will no longer carry Nets games after this season. WOR VP & GM Bob Bruno
said, "Given the ... increasingly competitive nature of talk radio today, we
have decided that ... it is better for us to concentrate our programming efforts
on building and branding our increasingly popular evening lineup of premiere
talk personalities" (N.Y. POST, 3/13).

Leonard Joins Star-Studded
Group On "The Contender"

NOTES: Sugar Ray Leonard has signed on to "train and
mentor the 16 boxing hopefuls" on NBC's "The Contender" (USA TODAY, 3/15)....In
Toronto, William Houston cited sources as saying that TSN "has emerged as the
favourite to retain exclusive rights" to Maple Leafs games. A total of 52 games
per season are in play, of which MLSE-owned Leafs TV plans to air 12. Insiders
foresee TSN "acquiring the rights to the remaining 40 and selling half the games
to Rogers Sportsnet." TSN currently pays C$450,000 per game for the Maple Leafs
(GLOBE & MAIL, 3/13).
