Names & Faces: Who Will Emerge From The NCAA Tourney?

UConn's Dynamic Duo Could Be The Most
Marketable Players To Emerge From Tourney

The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Chairusmi & Armstrong examine the marketability of the star players in this year's NCAA men's basketball tournament and write that "only one or two players are expected to win a meaningful endorsement deal," which will "probably be modest" compared to the $30M in deals signed by last year's tournament MOP Carmelo Anthony. The "player with the most to gain this year" is St. Joe's G Jameer Nelson. Reebok's Sonny Vaccaro: "He is a wonderful college story. He would be someone I would be interested in." Marketers said that other players to watch are UConn C Emeka Okafor and G Ben Gordon (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 3/15).

ANDY IS DANDY: SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Liz Mullen reports Andy Roddick has signed a multi-year deal with video game company Namco to use his name and likeness for a new video game. One source estimated the deal to be in the low six figures, not including royalties. SFX Tennis President Ken Meyerson said that another video game maker "also pursued Roddick, but that company wanted a lot of Roddick's time" and did not offer as lucrative a deal (SBJ, 3/15).

NICE PAIR: In Houston, Glenn Davis reported "expect to see" an ad for PepsiCo's Sierra Mist brand featuring DC United F Freddy Adu and Pele (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/14).
