Gund Would Sell Cavs At His Price; Committed To Cleveland

Cavaliers Owner Gordon Gund said yesterday that he has "no plans to [sell the team] imminently," but he "didn't rule out selling if he gets an offer too good to refuse," according to Chris Tomasson of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. Gund: "I don't have any intention to sell the team. I have said right along that any business that I have is at some price for sale, and so are the Cavs. But I'm not stripping the team to sell it like several (media members) have said. ... If somebody wants to talk to me about buying the team and they have the wherewithal, I'm not going to tell them, `No. Go pound sand.' I'll talk to them." Gund added, "I don't know what's going to happen in a year or two years or three years. ... But the team is staying here. ... There's no way this team is going to move out of Cleveland, and you have my commitment on that" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 7/16).

ALL ACCESS PASS: In Sacramento, Scott Howard-Cooper, on SI's Ian Thomsen's recent behind-the-scenes exclusive inside the Cavs' draft HQs: "Some around the league were surprised that the Cavaliers would give a reporter complete access to the war room on draft night without telling other teams, leading to the potentially embarrassing situation of the Clippers discussing the players they would be willing to trade." One NBA exec said, "It's sort of a dishonorable thing to do. To say it could have been handled differently is an understatement" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 7/14).
