The FBI has issued a "very vague" alert that people with "ties to terrorist groups are downloading images of U.S. stadiums from the Internet." Images downloaded from www.worldstadiums.com include the Edward Jones Dome and RCA Dome (AP, 7/5).

TWEAKING FENWAY: Red Sox President Larry Lucchino said that the team has "plans to add some limited seating above the 37-foot-high left-field wall for next year, adding the numbers of seats would number 'a few hundred'" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 7/4). In Boston, Scott Van Voorhis wrote Red Sox officials have "requested a series of permits from City Hall that will allow the team to set up turnstiles and concession stands" on Yawkey Way. Team consultant Janet Marie Smith said the Red Sox "want to try the concept on a 'trial basis' during five home games in the later part of the season" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/5). Also in Boston, Jeff Horrigan noted that construction "is currently underway" on Lansdowne Street on a support structure for advertising above the Green Monster. The structure "would also support 3-5 rows of seats atop The Wall, should ownership decide to go through with that plan for 2003" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/7).

NOTES: MLB Cardinals President Mark Lamping said that a Ballpark Village or a "similar development is 'ancillary' but not necessarily part of a new ballpark." Lamping: "I would assume there would be sites where we would not expect development to occur around the ballpark along the lines of Ballpark Village" (POST-DISPATCH, 7/7)....Jim McIngvale's Houston-based Westside Tennis Club will host the '03 and '04 Masters Cup. This year's Masters Cup is in Shanghai, and the event will return to the U.S. next year for the first time since '89 (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/7).
