In Raleigh, Lorenzo Perez writes that in a unanimous vote last night, the Cary Town Council agreed to build a multi-million dollar training complex for USA Baseball. The project is estimated to cost as much as $8M. Cary would serve as the training HQs for USA Baseball, while Durham "would house its executive office." USA Baseball would have use of Durham Bulls Athletic Park for some exhibition games (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 6/14)....NASCAR President Mike Helton said that KY Speedway "probably will not get a Winston Cup race" in '03, which "was the track's target date to land a race" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 6/14)....In Green Bay, Karen Rauen writes, "Combine dollars from ... Packers license plates and renewals, an income-tax checkoff, the ticket tax and interest earnings on all of the above and the total is less than the worst month of sales-tax collections." Alternative revenues have earned nearly $960,000, less than the $988,309 of sales tax earned in January for the $295M renovation of Lambeau Field. The revenue "helps shorten the life" of the 0.5% sales tax in Brown County to help fund the project (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 6/14)....MLB Cardinals President Mark Lamping said that the "best home for a new baseball stadium is in downtown St. Louis and that is where he believes it ultimately will be built" (POST-DISPATCH, 6/13)....In Boston, Beggy & Stoughton write that a contingent of Aramark and Red Sox reps, including President Larry Lucchino, appeared at a city Licensing Board hearing yesterday to "discuss plans for preventing alcohol violations" at Fenway Park. The "suited crowd was summoned after Fenway's Diamond Club got cited for serving alcohol to minors and failing to check IDs" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/14).
