Wheels & Deals: Toys R Us Makes Move From BGN To Cup Series
Despite reports that Toys R Us will sponsor Andy Petree Racing's (APR) No. 33 Winston Cup team for six races this season and for the entire '03 season, Toys R Us announced it will sponsor the Rick Goodwin-owned No. 54 team of driver Kevin Grubb for six Winston Cup races this season, and the team will lease equipment and track support from APR. The team currently competes in the Busch Series with backing from Toys R Us (THE DAILY).
NAME CHANGE: Casino Magic, which has sponsored Texas Motor Speedway's June IRL event since '00, will officially change its name to Boomtown Casino & Hotel on July 1. The June 8 IRL event will now be called the Boomtown 500 (TMS).
HE'S THEIR MAN-ZO: Kendall Motor Oil has signed NHRA driver Frank Manzo as part of a $5M TV and print ad campaign, via San Diego-based Bulldog Drummond, which will break next week on ESPN, ESPN2 and Speed Channel showing Manzo "doing everyday errands with a 'to do' list as a guide" (Karl Greenberg, ADWEEK, 4/29).
