CFL Lions Owner Wants To Buy Expos And Keep Them In Canada

CFL B.C. Lions Owner David Braley "has been making behind-the-scenes inquiries about purchasing" the Expos and "hopes to gain approval to move the club to Vancouver," according to Bob Elliott of the TORONTO SUN. However, "whether MLB will sell the Expos ... is another matter." If Braley was able to buy the club and move it, he "would not be infringing upon the territorial rights of the Mariners, who sit [131 miles] to the south" (TORONTO SUN, 4/25).

HOW ABOUT DC? A management source said MLB fans wanting a team to relocate to the DC area next season "should have a serious rooting interest in the contraction arbitration." In DC, Thom Loverro writes, "If the union wins out in the arbitration between the players and management over baseball's right to contract, then you can be assured that the ... Expos will be playing in Washington next season" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 4/25).
