In Newark, Futterman & Jordan write that YankeeNets and NJ Gov. James McGreevey's administration have "started over virtually from scratch in negotiations to finance the planned" Newark Arena. Anthony Coscia, the state's rep in the negotiations, said that a "variety of new financing mechanisms are being explored, ... including taxpayer-backed contract bonds" (STAR-LEDGER, 1/31)....Stuart Zadra of the Hammes Company, which is managing the $295M renovation of Lambeau Field, said that the project is 40% complete and "is largely on schedule." The "target date for completion" is August '03 (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/31)....Mashburn Cos. officials said that they "are willing to advance $40 million or more" for an NFL Cardinals stadium's infrastructure, including streets, sewers, water pipes and parking if a site at 40th Street and Loop 202 is selected. The company "expects to recoup the money from development it plans around the stadium" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/31)....USA TODAY's Chris Jenkins reports that Chip Ganassi "is talking to CART about the future of his financially troubled" Chicago Motor Speedway. Ganassi "hopes to have something resolved 'in the near future'" (USA TODAY, 1/31).
