NHL Team Notes: Senators Tix Plan; Leafs To Expand Some PSLs

The Senators yesterday announced an "Ice Your Price" program that gives fans a chance to put a freeze on the cost of seats by renewing for the '02-03 season when they order playoff tickets by March 1. The '01-02 playoff tickets will be sold at regular-season prices. Senators President & CEO Roy Mlakar said, "There is a huge perception in sports today that prices are escalating. Hopefully, this will have an impact on that perception in our marketplace." In Ottawa, Don Brennan notes the "ongoing battle for Mlakar and his staff has been to raise the number of season tickets to the league average — around 12,500." This season, the Senators sold about 9,400 season tickets (OTTAWA SUN, 1/31).

LICENSE TO SELL: In Toronto, Mary Ormsby notes the Maple Leafs are bringing in optional personal seat license (PSL) fees for tickets in the upper bowl — the blue, green and purple areas — of the Air Canada Centre. MLSE VP/Sales & Service Chris Overholt: "If people just want to keep their tickets within their immediate family, there's no problem. This is not for them. But if people want the option of transferring them to a business colleague in the future, now they will have that flexibility." Ormsby notes that PSLs are mandatory for Leafs subscribers in the lower bowls, with fees ranging C$15,000-$25,000 for platinum, gold and red seats. Before March 8, Maple Leafs PSLs for blue and green seats will sell for C$7,500 per seat while purple seats go for C$4,500. After March 8, the price jumps to C$10,000 for blues and greens and C$7,500 for purples (TOR. STAR, 1/31).
