Lefty With Schwab; Mayfair Out With Ping; Nike Golf Chief

Phil Mickelson has agreed to a multi-year endorsement contract with Charles Schwab. Mickelson will appear in Schwab TV and print ads, and will also make personal appearances at select PGA Tour and Charles Schwab client events. Mickelson, who also has a deal with KPMG and wears that company's logo on his headwear, will not wear a Schwab logo. A source from Gaylord Sports, which reps Mickelson, told THE DAILY this morning that Mickelson's Schwab deal is in the financial services category, while the KPMG deal is for consulting (THE DAILY).

NO MORE: Having left Ping, Billy Mayfair "is the latest logoless tour pro." With Ping since '86, Mayfair ended the relationship when "he failed to find a Ping driver with which he felt comfortable" (GOLF WORLD, 2/1 issue).

A LOOK AT NIKE GOLF: BRANDWEEK's Chuck Stogel discusses the Nike golf club launch and other issues with Nike Golf President Bob Wood. Wood, on the impact the PGA Tour's new TV deal, with its expected increased costs for ads: "It's getting to the point where golf companies cannot advertise on TV when our own sport is being played! That's pretty sad. But it helps [Nike] to have Tiger and David in that last group on Sunday" (BRANDWEEK, 1/28 issue).
