Michael Huyghue Departing Jaguars To Join Start-Up Rep Firm

Jaguars Senior VP MICHAEL HUYGHUE "will depart the team within the next two months" to join ATHLETES FIRST, "a fledgling sports representation firm" founded by longtime player agent DAVID DUNN, according to Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com, who noted Huyghue "has been with the Jags virtually since their inception, handling contract negotiations along with salary cap matters and other player-related responsibilities." Pasquarelli reported Huyghue's departure "was long-rumored" and it is "believed that [he] has officially tendered his resignation to Owner Wayne Weaver and has established the timetable for his exit." Huyghue's departure "will be outlined at a Monday press conference." Meanwhile, a source said the deal "has been in the works for some time." Other sources said that Huyghue "hopes to help make Athletes First 'a new IMG.'" Pasquarelli, on Huyghue: "His addition will provide Athletes First a presence on both coasts and the group will have a training site in Orlando to help prepare clients for the [NFL] draft" (ESPN.com, 11/8). In Jacksonville, Vito Stellino reports while Athletes First "will represent athletes in all sports and entertainment celebrities," Huyghue said that he expects the firm "to become the dominant one representing NFL athletes." Huyghue also said that he "will not be affected" by the legal battle between LEIGH STEINBERG and Dunn over Dunn's departure from Steinberg's firm (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 11/9).
