Media Notes

TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:30pm ET 30-minute edition of FSN's "National Sports Report" led with Yankees-White Sox, followed by Devil Rays-Red Sox. The first non-MLB report was the NFL announcing it would play a full 16-game regular season. Last night's 11:00pm ET 60-minute edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" also led with Yankees-White Sox, followed by Red Sox-Devil Rays. The first non-MLB report also was the NFL's schedule (THE DAILY).

THE GUEST LIST: Univ. of SC football coach Lou Holtz and of MS St. Univ. football coach Jackie Sherrill will be on "Up Close." NBC golf commentator Roger Maltbie will be on "The Last Word" (THE DAILY).

NEPOTISM TO BLAME? With Quadrangle Group and Media One CEO Amos Hostetter pulling out as investors in the Yankees Entertainment & Sports (YES) RSN (see THE DAILY, 9/18), in N.Y., Keith Kelly writes, "Nobody is talking on the record, but there's plenty of behind-the-scenes finger pointing by sources close to the situation." Sources are "insisting that the deal-breaker" was William Bresnan, a friend of YES CEO Leo Hindery and the father-in-law of Yankees GM Brian Cashman. But one source "felt that Quadrangle might have a tough time syndicating the deal in the current economic climate." Quadrangle entered the deal via Nets co-Owner Ray Chambers. Goldman Sachs entered the deal on the Yankees side. Kelly: "The board line-up was to feature 13 members, with six executives from the Nets and six executives from the Yankees. Bresnan was supposed to be the non-aligned independent board member" (N.Y. POST, 9/19).
