Camera Shy: Playboy Does Not Offer Harrison Enough To Pose

Mercury F Lisa Harrison decided not to pose for Playboy after winning playboy.com's "Sexiest Babe of the WNBA" poll because the magazine did not "come up with the nest egg that Harrison wanted," according to Jeff Metcalfe of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Harrison: "They sent me a contract, and I looked it over and had other people look it over for me. I made changes to the contract with concerns that I had, but obviously, the No. 1 issue was the money factor. All the changes I made to the contract (including the amount of nudity) they agreed to and they kept upping the money, but they didn't quite get to where I wanted. I really felt I needed to stick to my guns and stick to what I originally asked for." Metcalfe reports Playboy "is believed initially to have offered $75,000 to $100,000." Harrison: "I can just say from their original offer, they went up quite a bit. For me to do that, it would have to be something that would benefit me long term" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 8/21). ESPN.com's Darren Rovell reported Harrison earned "slightly more" than the WNBA veteran minimum of $35,000 this season, but Mercury GM Seth Sulka said that Harrison earned "close to $100,000" when including her community relations job during the offseason. Rovell noted Harrison, "fueled by the publicity of the poll," was the second-most searched athlete on Lycos from July 15-22, trailing only Anna Kournikova. Rovell also reported a game of H-O-R-S-E with Harrison sold for $705 on a WNBA.com auction, and a Harrison signed trading card sold for $31 on eBay (ESPN.com, 8/20).
