Saints Relying On Business, Political Leaders To Help Out

Three days after the Saints and the state of LA "came up with an agreement" to keep the team in the city for at least the next two years, Saints execs told business and political leaders that they "must sell tickets to make it work," according to Mary Foster of the AP. Saints Dir of Administration Arnold Fielkow said, "We've got 270,000 tickets for the whole season, if you really want to quantify it, left for sale. ... We're going to go out to every business in this region and emphasize that for this to be successful we need their help." Foster notes six area business leaders were invited yesterday to the Superdome to discuss the "need for tickets." While the Saints have sold just under 41,000 season tickets for this season, Fielkow said that over 80% of the 25,000 unsold tickets are in the upper level, or terrace. Saints Owner Tom Benson has cited those seats as one of the main reasons he needs a new stadium, calling them "virtually unsellable" (AP, 7/12). In Dallas, Glynn Wilson writes only six of the 137 luxury suites at the Superdome remain unsold. Those suites are on the third level and cost $60,000-65,000 per year (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/12). Benson, on support from local businesses: "I'm confident the local business community is going to get this thing done" (TIMES-PICAYUNE, 7/12).
