Set For Takeoff: ESPNews Will Relaunch On September 7

ESPNews will relaunch on Friday, September 7, the 22nd anniversary of ESPN (see THE DAILY, 7/10), when it will integrate a continuous bottom-line ticker that runs during national ad breaks with scores, updates and news stories (ESPN). In L.A., Richard Verrier writes the "expanded ticker will also display a graphic that tells viewers what upcoming scores, from football games to tennis matches, they can expect on the ticker scroll." ESPN "expects the changes will help boost the distribution" of ESPNews, which reaches 23 million HHs, the fewest of the four ESPN TV nets. ESPNews, launched in '96, will also increase its use of ESPN.com news, stats, polls, reporting and analysis to "augment the on-air product" (L.A. TIMES, 7/11).
