STADIUM NOTES

In Toronto, negotiations between the city and Maple
Leafs Gardens "broke down for a second time on Friday" as
the Leafs rejected a municipal proposal which would have
seen the team pay C$50M up front for a long-term lease at
Union Station. Some Toronto councillors suggest arbitration
as a way to rescue the proposed arena (TORONTO SUN, 7/8).
...In FL, state Dept. of Transportation officials have
agreed to pay for a $12.5M flyover interchange on the
Sawgrass Expressway near the new Panthers arena -- "as long"
as the Panthers "agrees to cover any shortfalls in toll
revenues." Huizenga Holdings spokesperson Stan Smith said
the team is "looking at that as an option" (MIAMI HERALD,
7/8)....Villanova's on-campus arena, known as the du Pont
Pavilion since it opened in '86, has been renamed The
Pavilion after the murder conviction of John du Pont four
     months ago (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/8).
