AN EYE FOR AN EYE? SHOWTIME SAYS NO DEAL WITH CBS ON FIGHT

Showtime, "angered by what it feels were leaks to the
news media by CBS Sports," said in a statement "there is no
deal for CBS" to air the Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson
delayed broadcast that was set for either August 9 or 16 in
prime time, according to Richard Sandomir of the N.Y. TIMES.

CBS was set to pay $750,000 for the rights to the rematch.
CBS Dir of Communications LeslieAnne Wade: "We have no
comment." The TIMES' Sandomir wrote "assuming that CBS does
not try to resurrect the deal, no other network is likely to
step up for $750,000 for a delayed broadcast unless the
timing is changed" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/4). In Boston, Jim Baker
wrote Showtime execs "were furious" that CBS Sports
President Sean McManus "leaked word of the deal to USA Today
and New York scribes, hurting the potential for Showtime's
     three replays" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/6).
