DEAR MR. FANTASY, I'M FEELING BLUE: CONGRESS TO BAN GAMES?

Players and providers of fantasy sports games "fear
legislation they say would make it illegal to play ball on
the Internet," according to Jeff Niese of the LAS VEGAS
REVIEW-JOURNAL. Some fear that a bill by U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl
(R-AZ) to prohibit Internet gambling "also would criminalize
fantasy sports leagues in the process." While fantasy
league producers "got a late start," they have been lobbying
"hard in recent weeks." MO-based CDM Fantasy Sports has
hired a Washington, DC, lobbyist and NY-based lawyers to
fight the legislation, which "has passed committee and
awaits action in the full Senate." Niese added that
industry officials have met with Kyl, "but he has refused to
make substantive changes" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 7/9).
