REEBOK TAKES FIGHT AGAINST OPPRESSION TO THE HIGHEST COURT

Reebok "has a new copy writer for its sneaker ads --
the late William O. Douglas, a former US Supreme Court
justice known for his defense of individual liberties,"
according to Chris Reidy of the BOSTON GLOBE. The voiceover
for the new Reebok ad is taken from a speech Douglas wrote
for a '76 bar association meeting in which he "warned young
lawyers to remain vigilant against totalitarian threats,"
and Douglas' words "seem to allude to Reebok's footwear
rivals," which are portrayed "as fashion purveyors of
oppressive conformity in contrast to its emphasis on
individuality, empowerment, and performance." Reidy adds
that the new Reebok spot, created by Berlin Cameron &
Partners, NY, "is likely to be first encountered on movie
screens rather" than on TV (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/10).
