FRANCHISE NOTES

ANOTHER SCHOTT DEADLINE EXTENSION: In Cincinnati, Geoff
Hobson reports that sources said MLB has offered an
extension to Reds CEO & President Marge Schott that gives
her 90 more days to sell her stake in the team. As a
result, Reds Managing Exec John Allen will continue to run
the team until June 30 (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 3/24).
OTHER NOTES: Orioles 3B Cal Ripken Jr. is attending to
his sick father, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in
October. It appears "unlikely" Ripken will travel with the
team to Havana for Sunday's exhibition game (WASHINGTON
POST, 3/24)....In DC, David Segal writes that if the Howard
Milstein-Daniel Snyder group's bid for the Redskins is
"rebuffed" next month, the group "will have few options to
challenge" the NFL. However, legal experts said executors
of the Jack Kent Cooke estate could have a case against the
league because they are required "to raise as much money as
they can for the estate" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/24)....The
Rangers-White Sox series scheduled for May 10-12 will not be
moved to Puerto Rico. MLBPA Special Assistant Tony
Bernazard said that the proposed relocation "is dead" due to
"logistical problems and objections by some involved
parties" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/24)....A crowd of 22,236
was on hand for the Raptors-Bulls game at the United Center
last night, as the Bulls shot 10% (2-of-20) from the field
and trailed 31-9 in the first quarter. Bulls coach Tim
Floyd: "That was awful" (DAILY SOUTHTOWN, 3/24).
