This Is OCNN: Ochocinco's News Outlet Has Presence At Super Bowl

Ochocinco Has Enlisted Cooley, Dockett, Rice
To Be Part Of OCNN's Super Bowl Coverage |
Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco's Ochocinco News Network (OCNN) is among the more traditional media outlets present at Super Bowl XLIV, as it has a "spot reserved along Radio Row ... and will be out in force during Media Day on Tuesday, interviewing Super Bowl participants," according to Rick Maese of the WASHINGTON POST. Ochocinco has "enlisted the help" of Redskins TE Chris Cooley, Ravens RB Ray Rice and Cardinals DE Darnell Dockett, and "all four players were at the Media Center on Monday afternoon, shooting promos for the fledgling 'news network.'" The four players "will Tweet, provide updates for the OCNN Facebook page and shoot video updates for the OCNN site." They will "likely post Super Bowl-related entries to their personal blogs, as well" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 2/1). In New York, Joe Kay writes the goal of OCNN is to “provide players’ reactions to the whirlwind week.” Ochocinco: “That’s what everybody wants to hear. They want to hear the players’ perspective. They don’t want to hear what the other (media) outlets say about what they feel is going on. People want to hear what the players feel about the events, the whole nine yards.” Kay notes Ochocinco, Cooley, Rice and Dockett “had a production meeting” yesterday and they are “taking it seriously” (Westchester JOURNAL NEWS, 2/2). Dockett said OCNN is "going to be a lot of entertainment, but we're going to be breaking some news, too" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 2/2).

Cooley Attends NFL Media Day
Sporting OCNN-Branded Apparel |
NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS: Ochocinco, Cooley, Dockett and Rice attended Media Day today wearing OCNN-branded polo shirts and caps. Cooley said of being a journalist during the event, "It's a whirlwind out here, and it's tough to get to Peyton Manning, I know that. I had a blast. It's tough to kind of figure out what you want to ask guys. We're trying to have a lot of fun, be laid-back, ask a little bit of a silly-type question, but I enjoyed it." Dockett added, "We're like the comedians of the news crew. We get all the inside information. You've got to remember too, we get more information than a lot of people because we can just call these people on the phone" (NFL Network, 2/2).
SPECIAL GUEST: ESPN.com's Lynn Hoppes reported Ochocinco has joined ESPN's Page 2 "to help us hype probably the most anticipated Super Bowl in recent years." Ochocinco: "One thing about ESPN: They will allow me to be me, allow me to build my fan base. I know people want to see sports from my point of view" (ESPN.com, 2/1). In a special to ESPN.com, Ochocinco wrote, "I know you love following me on Twitter, so now you can get a chance to read me in more than 140 characters at a time. This is going to be awesome" (ESPN.com, 2/1).
