USTA Chief Business Officer Pierce O'Neil Leaving Organization

O'Neil Signed More Than $1B In Business
For USTA During His Tenure
USTA Chief Business Officer of Professional Tennis PIERCE O'NEIL "is resigning after 15 years at the organization," according to Daniel Kaplan of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Sources said that O'Neil "has another position lined up, but what that job is could not be determined." A source added that USTA CMO of Professional Tennis HARLAN STONE "will assume O'Neil's responsibilities, which include sponsorships, marketing and TV." O'Neil signed "more than $1[B] in business" for the USTA during his tenure, and USTA annual revenue "more than doubled to more than $255[M] in 2009." He also "oversaw the growth of annual sponsorship revenue from $14[M] in 1994 to more than $60[M] in 2009, and led negotiations that resulted in the largest TV agreements in the history of the sport." ATP co-Founder DONALD DELL, who handles the U.S. Open's international TV rights, said, "I don't subscribe to the point of view that the U.S. Open is a great property and anyone can sell it. In the last 12 months, the economic climate was tough, and Pierce kept all their sponsors" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/11 issue).
