Prime Rib: Belichick Rips CBS' Casserly For Tom Brady Report

Belichick Highly Critical Of CBS Report That
Brady Is Playing With Three Broken Ribs
Patriots coach Bill Belichick yesterday on WEEI-AM "mocked" a report by CBS' Charley Casserly that Patriots QB Tom Brady has three broken ribs, calling the claim “100-percent wrong,” according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. Belichick: "There's so much stuff out there that is so inaccurate that it's comical. Who's been wrong more than Casserly? His percentage is like a meteorologist" (BOSTON.com, 1/4). More Belichick: "He has no relationship to this team. I'd say less than zero. Based on what? He's never at a practice, never at a game. ... At least he put his name on it which is more than a lot of guys. But, like he usually is, he was 100[%] wrong." PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Gregg Rosenthal wrote it "looks like Casserly won't be taking" Patriots Senior Football Advisor Floyd Reese's "route from the television studio to Foxborough" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 1/4). ESPN’s Mike Greenberg said, "One thing they do in New England, they are one united front … and they back one another up." He noted that Brady has not looked right during the past couple games, and ESPN’s Mike Golic added Casserly “seems to think it has something to do with the ribs and Bill Belichick denies that.” Golic: “You don't know what's going on there. That's their policy" ("Mike & Mike in the Morning," ESPN2, 1/5). CSNNE.com’s Tom Curran noted Brady has been “battling rib issues since he got leveled” by Jets LB Bart Scott in November. Brady first appeared on the injury report for his ribs after playing the Dolphins last month (CSNNE.com, 1/4).

FIRST ON THE SCENE? ESPN’s Bill Simmons yesterday used Twitter as a vehicle to express his latest thoughts on the Worldwide Leader and its well-publicized social media policy. An article posted on ESPN.com Sunday about injuries to Brady cited both Casserly and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Simmons, however, made it clear that he first reported Brady’s broken ribs in a Twitter post on December 10. Simmons yesterday linked to his previous Tweet about Brady’s injured ribs, and wrote, “Apparently ESPN's new social media guidelines don't cover giving Casserly and Schefter credit for this.” Simmons proceeded to post links to two more Twitter posts from December in which he reported Brady’s broken ribs, including one that read in part, “Whatever. Nobody believes me.” Simmons then took one more thinly-veiled shot at ESPN, writing, “Believe me, I don't care. The whole ‘scoop’ thing is overrated. But what's the point of governing Twitter if you don't take it seriously?” (Brian Helfrich, THE DAILY).
