Getting Closer: CBS Nearing 90% Mark For Super Bowl Ad Sales

CBS is nearing the 90% sold-out mark for Super Bowl XLIV, meaning the net "likely has only between six and 12 30-second ad spots left to sell from the 62 typically sold" for the game, according to Brian Steinberg of AD AGE. CBS Sports Exec VP/Sales & Marketing John Bogusz said sales have been "surprisingly good." He added that the net has "'a couple of units' left to sell in the first half of the game, but that the bulk of remaining inventory is in the fourth quarter." Bogusz indicated that CBS is "pacing ahead of ... ad sales for the 2007 Super Bowl telecast, the last time the network broadcast the game." Steinberg cited sources as saying that GM, which did not advertise during NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl XLIII, "has been considering using the Super Bowl to advertise its GMC vehicles." Sources added that Motorola "will advertise in the game" (ADAGE.com, 11/17).
